Welcome to Year Eight. You've had a year of art education and by now should know the basics and be able to develop your own ideas into a personal response. Art this year is about preparing you for GCSE, building your confidence and developing skills where we need to.
the projects
We've put together a lot of resources to enhance and explain what we look at in class - this website is our online version of the 'Knowledge Organiser' you have been given by the school. Scan the QR codes in your book for quick access or click on the buttons below to find out more.
independent enquiry
Each half term you be set an independent enquiry task. You will read about a style of art, from one of our Art History Sheets, and then conduct your own research before creating an original piece of art in that style.
As well as that you can also complete these tasks to earn extra stamps in your planner and other rewards:
As well as that you can also complete these tasks to earn extra stamps in your planner and other rewards:
- Download the Google Arts and Culture App - use it to 'visit' a museum and write about the artworks you see.
- Borrow an art book from the Art Department or Library - use this sheet to write a review of it.
- Choose a piece of work by one of the artists from each project and use this sheet to help you analyse it - present your work as a Powerpoint and email it to your teacher.
- Teach a technique or skill you have learned in class to someone at home - ask them to evaluate their work the same way we do in class.
- Use the careers page on this site to research an art career you are interested in - present your findings in a creative way.
literacy in art and design
In class we will be sharing our keywords with you to develop you art vocabulary. We also expect you to read about art in your own time away from class and will regularly give you interesting and informative things to read. You can also find books in D6 and the school library.
