Studying the history of photography starts with taking a look at some of the major photography movements, including the people, technology and events that defined them and the evolution of photography over time.
styles of photography
You don't have to know everything about every single photography movement or style to pass your GCSE; but it certainly helps to be able to talk about the history of our subject and how it has influenced you.
The images below link to information sheets; quick guides to the major styles in photography over the last 200 years and the people who created them. Each sheet also has an example of a contemporary photographer who is working in the the style today. Use them as a starting point for further research.
Please be aware that this is only one perspective of the story of photography. There are more stories of how photography has developed out there for you to find.
