Today is 'Blue Monday'. Allegedly the most depressing day of the year, although I'd argue the first day back after the summer holidays knocks today into a close second place. It's easy to lose motivation at this time of year, especially if like me you're a teacher of 'experience'. With any job you can lose motivation for a variety of reasons - as a teacher, it can often be due to teaching the same subject and dealing with the same challenges year after year. However, it is important for every teacher to stay as motivated as possible in order to provide the best education for their students. This got me thinking. How have I tried to maintain my motivation and enthusiasm, for my subject after 20 years in the classroom?
Staying motivated as a teacher, especially one of 20 years, can be challenging. Continuously learning and growing, setting goals, connecting with other teachers, taking a break, and embracing technology are all ways to stay motivated in the classroom. Remember to take care of yourself and find your own ways of making teaching enjoyable and rewarding. |
